ABOUT US...

Exploring Dirt is our way of blending adventure, history, and the great outdoors. What drives us most is the incredible history hidden across British Columbia...the stories and places that even lifelong residents may not know exist. Every ghost town, fire tower, mine, and trail has a tale to tell, and we love uncovering those forgotten pieces of the past.

For us, exploring isn’t just about the destinations, it’s about the serenity of the mountains, the thrill of discovering a pristine lake or reaching a rugged summit, and the moments where wildlife crosses our path and reminds us how wild this province still is. Standing at an old fire lookout or walking through the remains of a once-bustling mining town, we feel connected to those who came before us, and we want to share those connections with you.

Our journey began in 2019. Like many others during COVID, we searched for ways to enjoy life closer to home and started traveling the backroads of the Okanagan. To our surprise, even after years of living in the Thompson-Okanagan, there was still so much to discover...hidden places that had been right in front of us all along.

With our two kids grown and starting their own adventures, we suddenly had more freedom to chase our own. We pack up on a whim, head into the mountains, and let curiosity guide us. Along the way, we’ve learned so much...from the history of BC’s fire towers, to the resilience of ghost towns (some still standing, others reclaimed by the forest), to the fascinating world of old mines.
